KC3 (draft)

Polynesians were the first to arrive to the Hawaiian Islands.  They are known to be the most skilled seasmen ever to sail the oceans.

Polynesians set out voyaging a long time ago without any modern day technology.  They did not have any compass, or navigator as modern sailors would have now days. They were in search of new lands to settle on, and then they came across Hawaii.  They started the process of building ancient weapons, and from that we have improved on them.

The Polynesian voyagers relied on their instincts and skills that was passed on to them by their ancestors.  Tools for their navigation was the sky, ocean, stars, and wildlife which helped them navigate themselves to the smallest islands such as Hawaii.  There were some problems on their voyage.  Polynesian Voyagers had to deal with many diseases with no cure for it and also malnutrition.

Back then the Polynesians voyaged in their ancient cultural canoes.  The canoes did not provide protection from rain which may have caused pnuemonia.  Scurvy from the lack of nutrients may have killed off a great number of sailors during the voyage.

Ancient Polynesian voyagers did not have much knowledge of such diseases and threats that troubled them during their voyage.  another thing they may not have known much about would be that drinking salt water actually dehydrates the human body because of the high salt concentration in the sea water.

Today Hawaii is on the map thanks to the Polynesian voyagers.  We now have new technology to help us sail, but still we do not forget about the ancient techniques of sailing.  We have learned from their mistakes and we have made voyaging much safer and easier.

Now days people sail in big ship equipped with alot of advanced technology.  Thousands of years ago, back when the polynesians were voyaging, they sailed in small cultural canoes that was steered by one person and had many men paddling to make them go forth.  There has been a massive change from ancient voyaging to modern voyaging.

The Polynesians had a great effect on sailing to this day.  The body of the ancient canoes are visible in the modern canoes to this day.  the way the Polynesians steered their canoes has been modified to work more efficiently and on its own.  We actually took the ancient cultural Polynesian ways and improved them such as the size of the boats, the boats being able to run by gasoline instead of man power, and the improvement of life while voyaging/sailing.  Polynesian voyagers has made a huge impact on sailors today and on Hawaiian history.

A place that made a very big impact on my life was my Grandma's house. My Grandma's name was Rose Corpuz. She took care of me alot when i was growing up from when i was a tiny little baby until this day. She has past away a year ago but she still lives deep inside of me. I learned a lot from living at my Grandma's house. From when i was little she would gently wash my puny body almost everyday. I still remember every single step she would do to give me a bath. My cousins also lived with my Grandma which brought all of us really close. Our relationships grew a great deal over the years.

We used to always go to the beach together as a big family and come home happy every week. Living at my Grandma's house showed me a new side to life in many ways. I spent many tears there as well. I also had some of the most fun I ever had there to. A lot of my childhood was at my Grandma's house, that is why being there made a big impact in my life and brought me to who I am now.

Journal #9

The novel i am ready is Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers. It relates to me because my family speaks pidgin every single day of my life. My family's ethnic group is full Filipino meaning that its in our blood to speak pidgin. I do not think that speaking pidgin is a bad thing if you are able to turn it on and off at the right times. I am a little bit of Japanese so i guess i could relate to Lovey in some sort of way. The party's Lovey's family have are like my family's parties but the Filipino version.

DRAFT

As i step foot into my Grandpa's house, I can already smell the familiar distinct smell of chicken adobo. As I am walking in I think to myself, " I remember that smell, and I think it is chicken adobo." The kitchen is the first room that you would walk into as you walk into the house. The moment I pass the stove I can feel the heavy heat on the skin of my face and arms. I see my Dad stirring something in a big pot and I start to wonder what it is.
I peaked my face over the pot and inhaled deeply through my nose. I did not even have to look down at the pot to know that he was cooking my favorite dish, chicken adobo. While I am peaking over the pot, my Dad tells me "I know that this is your favorite food aah boy." I think to myself, I cannot wait until I can finally grab some rice and chicken adobo and sit down and eat!" The first question i always ask when someone is cooking food is " How long will it take until the food is ready because i am very hungry?"
My Dad would respond saying " Almost, just hold on and I will call you when it's done." So I would either go outside and socialize with my family, or go inside and sit back and watch TV until the food was ready. While i am sitting in the living room watching TV, I can still smell the aroma of chicken adobo flowing though the living room into all the rooms in the house. Still waiting for the food to be ready, I am in a traumatized state, having to wait for the food for so long. I finally go to the kitchen one last time to see how things are going and I ask "do you need any help cooking the food?"
My Dad reply's saying " No need boy, I'm already done cooking, your to late." From that comment he just gave me i assume hes already done cooking. Finally I can eat some rice and chicken adobo to satisfy my hunger!
