Project Icarus Journal #2 Data & Information Gathering

Data & Information Gathering:

Created in the Bronx, NY around 1973, Bboying or breakdancing is a extremely fun, yet difficult dance that bboys and bgirls participate in. It takes it's own steps from the foundations of the first bboys, and then the dancer adds whatever they want to their dance. It's a tool for self expression, creating visual art, and a lot of fun. Watch the video for guidance as you follow the steps, as the moves are better demonstrated visually than through words.

One of the first things any bboy should learn is the difference between "breakdancing" and "bboying". Bboying is the first term made to describe the dance; it's usually the term used when in the community. The term the general media uses to describe the dance is breakdancing, which was conjured up by a reporter back when the dance was gaining recognition.

Learn the Basic Moves These are critical to becoming a good breaker and should not be glossed over carelessly. Working hard at the basics will allow you to become a better beraker than if you went straight for the harder and more impressive moves.

Learn how to toprock, or the stand-up part of the dance. This is where you can really let loose and enjoy yourself. It's this part of the dance that you can play with the music a lot.

Learning the freezes is very essential being a successful breaker. This is the traditional way to finish your throwdown (a throwdown is what we call it when you visit the floor to take your turn) The basic freezes to learn are: Baby freeze, turtle, shoulder, side chair. These are the most fundamental freezes and it is very important that you learn them early on as a lot of other moves build on them.

Reflection questions chap 2-3

  1. Describe the areas the Orpah and Elie Wiesel visit in Chapter 2 & 3.  A.  The areas they visited were the gas houses and the other areas that many jews were killed within the camps.
  2. Why do Oprah and Elie Wiesel refer to the camp as a "death factory"? how was it "industrialized"?  A.  Oprah and Elie Wiesel refereed to the camps as death factories because majority of the jews brought to the camps were killed, and the somewhat fortunate jews that were able to work became their slaves.
  3. What is the significance of the hundreds of labelled suitcases? of the baby clothes? of the shoes?  A.  The significance was that many of jews, poor and rich were brought together and received the same fate.  As for the babies, those babies could have been someone that found a cure for cancer, or become the next president, and so forth.
  4. How is this video different in video technique and style from most videos or movies that you are used to seeing? (think about your answers to question 2 on the previous reflection)? Do you think the difference in style was effective? Why or why not?  A.  This video is different in style because Oprah and Elie Wiesel are talking as if the camera were not there.
  5. After watching the video and reading the book, what is your impression or response to this thing called the Holocaust? How did the experience of watching the video differ from that of reading the book for you?

Project Icarus

First of all, I would research into franchising by looking at the IFA's (International Franchise Association) website. I will then seek professional guidance in the Legal, accounting, systems aspects of franchising. Also, I already know that it takes about $500,000-$1,000,000 in capital to even start a franchise. Know that information, I will research into how to produce that kind of money and what sources will I need to associate myself with to obtain that kind of money. My first source so far is the owner of a Ninja Sushi Franchise in downtown.

My end product will be a successful McDonald franchise in the mainland.

My topic will be on Franchising. To be more broad, I will be franchising in McDonald's restaurants. I will be stretching into the field of capitalizing and being successful in this field of business. I will go out and find sources to get help from such as small business franchising companies that will help me start off my business.

Belief Blog

I believe in the "Law of Attraction." Law of Attraction is basically thinking of things, and those thoughts, becomeing reality. It is also about attracting positive and negative things to you. If I have negative thoughts, negative things are more likely to happen. But if I have positive thinking in my daily life, more positive things are more likely to happen to me.

For me in my daily life, I like to think positive about other too, because if I think negative about that person, I believe that negative things will attract towards me to. Some people would call that karma, but to me, I look at it as the "Law of Attraction." For instance, in my personal experiences, I see a girl that is not my type, I do not call her a mean name, I say "Shes beautiful, but not my type." Another example would be if and when I am sick. If I am sick, I think of feeling good again so that thought may become true.

So in my daily life, I like to think positive and flush out all negative thoughts so that I can live a positive life. I noticed that whenever I have negative thoughts in general, I do not feel as good as when I think of positive thoughts. In my preference, I feel that negative thoughts create, attract negative energy towards myself.

This belief I have does not only apply to my daily life, but also others. For example, if I were to yell at someone for doing something wrong and be negative towards that person, I would be sending negative energy towards him or her. The most common thing a person would do would be that the person I was yelling at will receive the negative energy that I created, making that person negative also.

On the other hand, If I were to be positive towards someone, giving praise and gratitude for something,I would most likely see a lot of more good work from that person, only because you were positive, giving him or her positive energy. I also believe that with this belief I have, I am able to make people's days a whole lot better, and help others to live a happy life, everyday, every year, forever.

Allusion -Reflection in comment-

Adventure into curiosity

I swing the trees with huge curiosity
with only the ground
solid and cold
as my support to catch me if I fall

My surroundings keep me thinking
with all mother nature
balanced and resilient
waiting for me to explore
for that I shall

With my fellow companion
yellow suit and hat
cares for me if I were his own
replacing the trees
and solid ground

Still Adventure fuels me
with wide imagination
so much to discover
as Forever shall I be
Beside the trees

for I shall hover beside the trees

Article: Myth: Lascaux

Lascaux is the setting of a complex of caves in southwestern France famous for its Paleolithic cave paintings. The original caves are located near the village of Montignac, in the Dordogne département. They contain some of the best-known Upper Paleolithic art. These paintings are estimated to be 17,300 years old. [1][2] They primarily consist of primitive images of large animals, most of which are known from fossil evidence to have lived in the area at the time. In 1979, Lascaux was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list along with other prehistoric sites in the Vézère valley.[3]
